PRP for Hair Loss: What to Expect From Your Treatment
What is PRP?
PRP uses your own blood. A small sample is taken and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma, which contains growth factors. These are then injected into the scalp where hair is thinning, helping to stimulate weakened follicles and support healthier growth.
Who is it suitable for?
PRP works best for early to moderate hair thinning, such as androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss) or thinning after stress, illness or hormonal changes. It is less effective where follicles are no longer active. A consultation helps us assess whether you are a good candidate.
What happens during a session?
A typical appointment takes 45–60 minutes. After the blood draw and preparation, the plasma is injected into targeted areas of the scalp using very fine needles. Most people describe the feeling as mild discomfort rather than pain.
Recovery and aftercare
You can usually return to normal activities the same day. Mild tenderness or redness may last a day or two. We advise avoiding hair washing, heavy exercise and hair dyes for 24–48 hours.
When will I see results?
PRP is a course, not a one-off. Most clients have three to four sessions about four weeks apart, followed by maintenance every six to twelve months. Reduced shedding is often noticed first, with improved density appearing after three to six months.
